FS0284 A RARE ORIGINAL RECLAIMED GEORGIAN CAST IRON RANGE SURROUND

A rare, elegant, original reclaimed Georgian cast iron range surround. The tall surround has a beautiful appearance, typical of the era, with large acanthus leaves in each of the top corners and flowers in the centre of the crossbar. There are ornate flower and leaf designs down each leg and a small knob near the centre of each leg. The cast iron has been blacked and polished and it has a nice finish. The range surround is in very good antique condition with some signs of wear commensurate with its considerable age. The surround has some holes where fixings were added to attach the surround to the wall. There are some scratches, small knocks and casting marks. The edges have some unevenness. The range surround is fairly unstable until it is attached to a wall and it cannot stand on its own. We have added two modern bolts, sprayed black, to the top piece of the surround. The back of the surround has some surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The range surround is a very pretty and rare Georgian find and it would make a wonderful feature in a home.
