Antique Caughley Porcelain
The Caughley factory in Shropshire produced soft paste porcelain between about 1775 and 1799 under Thomas Turner, and its blue and white wares are among the most collected of all early English porcelain. Caughley, sometimes described as Salopian, is known for printed and painted chinoiserie patterns including Fisherman, Pleasure Boat and Bandstand.
Marks include an S, a crescent and a printed C, though many pieces are unmarked and are attributed on body, glaze and pattern. The works were bought by Coalport in 1799. Antiques Boutique brings together Caughley porcelain from specialist dealers, and the guide to identifying antique porcelain and ceramics explains how to distinguish it from Worcester of the same period.
