About this item
PEARLWARE CHILD'S TRANSFERWARE CUP PLATE
DR. FRANKLIN'S MAXIMS ~ LOST TIME
Staffordshire England ~ c. 1840
This early quite small 4 1/8 inch cup plate is transfer printed in brown. The cup plate has a transfer of a men rowing a boat leaving the lighthouse harbor en route to a steamer out at sea.
Dr. Franklin’s Maxim:
Lost Time ~ Is Never Found Again
What We Call Time Enough~ Always ~ Proves Little Enough
The piece is unmarked. It most certainly was made in the Staffordshire district. Plates were used to aid in children's education and moral training, and to encourage their imaginations in the early to mid-19th century.
The condition of this delightful plate is very good with glaze popping to the front and some under glaze kiln dust and clumps. Otherwise appears never used.
