A Chinese underglaze blue plate with flowers and insects, Kangxi
A Chinese export plate with spiral-moulded rim, decorated in underglaze blue, and dating from the Kangxi period. The centre of the plate is decorated with grass, chrysanthemums and other flowers emerging from decorative rockwork and with insects flying above and a grasshopper on the blade of grass. The rim is moulded into spiral panels, each with flowers, birds and insects. The reverse has stylised flowers around the rim, and a flower head mark to the base. Diameter 21.9cm (8.6")
Date: Kangxi c1700-20
Condition: some chipping to the foot rim, and a small amount of glaze fritting to the rim. No cracks and no restoration.
