A striking Art Deco design ceramic plaque by Jean Garillon (the pseudonym of the potter Jean Xavier Ernest Elchinger) (1898-1981). This stag design was one of his regular motifs.
Jean Garillon was a son of the potter Charles Elchinger. From 1928 he took his wife's maiden name and signed all his pieces 'Jean Garillon'. He was a pioneer in art pottery and ceramics in the Art Deco style. In 1943 moved to Saint-Cloud. His works can be seen in various collections including the Musées de Strasbourg and the National Museum of Ceramics at Sèvres.
Very good condition. Very minor fritting to slip to one tulip and at one point of the cream slip to the rim.
