About this item
AESTHETIC MOVEMENT ERA
BROWN TRANSFERWARE PLATE
MILAN PATTERN
W. H. Grindley and Co. Potteries
Tunstall, Staffordshire England c. 1882
This Victorian aesthetic 9 5/8 " plate is transfer printed in dark chocolate brown.
The pattern features a very elaborate border filled with great urns of flowers, pendants of flower buds opening and wonderful scrolling. The busy center of the piece reminds me of an exquisite snowflake. The plate was made as a tribute to Milan, Italy, the world's capital of design.
The piece is marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name and trademark that identifies the maker as Grindley, a pottery maker working in Tunstall in the Staffordshire region of England during the 19th century.
Great condition, clean shiny and bright. No chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs.
