About this item
EARLY ENGLISH DARK BLUE TRANSFERWARE PLATE
MONTHS ~ NOVEMBER
Wedgwood China Works
Staffordshire England ~ 1898
This large late Victorian 10 3/8 inch plate is transfer printed in blue against an off white background showing good detail and good contrast. The best dark blue I have seen.
The Aesthetic Movement plate shows a young man with his fish basket strolling along the sea shore. It is one of a series of seasonal scenes depicting the 12 months of the year, designed in the 1880s by Helen Miles. The images of the months were produced by Wedgwood in the Staffordshire region of England.
Unbelievably well loved to go to the time and expense to staple this beauty back together. We love staple repaired ceramics.
