OUTSTANDING STAFFORDSHIRE TRANSFERWARE PLATE
SWALLOW PATTERN
J. F. Wileman Potteries
Tunstall, Staffordshire, England ~ 1880
This striking dark chocolate brown transfer aesthetic cake plate measures 10 1/2 " wide including incised handles. Beautifully hand painted under the glaze in shades of green, golden yellow, cinnamon brown, robins eggshell blue and fushia red.
The piece is decorated with the desirable SWALLOW pattern. It is an abundantly rich Aesthetic design with a Japanesque influence, combining the Victorian love of nature and the exotic. The variegated bamboo, butterfly and swallow in this large scale is dramatic. The rich dark border enhances the full impact of this wonderful aesthetic scene.
Condition is excellent. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs. Tight crazing consistent with age.
