About this item
SUPERB AESTHETIC BROWN TRANSFERWARE PLATE
BAMBOO PATTERN
Bates and Walker, Late Mayers Potteries
Staffordshire England c. 1876
This Victorian large 10 3/8 " dinner plate is transfer printed in dark brown. The pattern features a double painted geometric rim and flower filled swags leading to a transfer print of a water bird landing amongst a bamboo hidden lake.
The piece is marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name and trademark that identifies the maker as Bates and Walker, a pottery maker working in the Staffordshire region of England during the 19th century.
The piece is in great condition, clean shiny and bright. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs. It is absolutely gorgeous - elegant and well potted, with richly detailed transfers reflecting the Victorian love of the exotic.
