    About this item

Attractive Caughley barrel fluted teapot and hexagonal stand, c.1785, decorated by Chamberlain Worcester in the "French Sprig" pattern. The teapot has an ear shape handle and pretty moulded detail to the spout. The fluting to the body carries up over the shoulder and on to the lid which is fished with a slightly fluted knop. The teapot stand is also shaped with fluted sides and rim.
Both pieces painted with scattered cornflowers in blue and pink and with a repeating border of the same flowers in a garland around the rims of the stand, pot and lid. Gilded detailing to the spout, handle and knop and gilded bands to frame the borders and rims.

The teapot measures 14cm (5 1/2") high, 20.5cm (8") spout to handle and 11.5cm (4 1/2") wide. The stand measures 15.cm (6") across at the widest point, 14cm (5 1/2") wide edge to edge and 2.5cm (1") high.

Condition is very good. There are a few frits around the upper edge of the lid but no other damage or restoration. Some surface wear to the decoration: the gilding is rubbed in a few places, mainly to the handle, lower band on the pot and rims and some of the sprigs in the dish are rubbed.
