About this item
Very pretty Chamberlain's Worcester scent bottle with a rich burgundy red ground and large reserve with a painted view of Worcester (named on the reverse). A lovely sunny scene of the river with boats and people walking along the path beside, with the aqueduct and cathedral in the background. Gilded decoration around the edge of the reserve and spilling around the sides of the vase and gilded rim. Printed mark "CHAMBERLAIN'S WORCESTER" c.1840.
It measures 14cm (5 1/2") high and 8cm (3 1/8") wide.
Condition is very good with no damage or restoration. Some rubbing to the gilding at the rim and a little here are there around the vignette. A few very minor scratches to the burgundy ground, mainly to the lower part of the back and minimally detracting. It would have clearly had a porcelain stopper but this has been lost over the years as is often the case.
