About this item
A good Chamberlain porcelain coffee cup of tapered shape with ear shape handle, well painted in the popular "stag hunt" pattern, widely used by many English manufactories as a copy of an original Chinese design. Chamberlain's termed the pattern "Hunting in Compartments" in their records. Unmarked c.1792-1795.
Reference: A selection of items decorated in this pattern are illustrated in Chamberlain-Worcester Porcelain by Godden, plates 44-49, with the pattern being discussed alongside on page 68.
It measures 6.5cm (2 1/2") high and 7cm (2 3/4") rim to rim.
Condition is excellent with no damage or repair and very minor handling wear just slightly to the gilt on the rim. There is a small underglaze nick on the inside of the foot rim caused during manufacture.
