About this item

Introduction to Celadon Porcelain

Celadon porcelain, admired for its smooth greenish glaze, has been a hallmark of Chinese ceramics for centuries. Produced in the Jingdezhen region, it is known for its refined craftsmanship and elegant appeal. The tradition of using white slip to create raised, intricate designs became a way to add depth and contrast, bringing motifs of nature to life on the jade-like surfaces of celadon.

Description of the Celadon Vase

This Chinese porcelain vase, originally made in the mid to late 19th century, is decorated with a celadon glaze and intricate white slip motifs featuring birds and flowering plum blossoms. The combination of the soft green glaze and detailed slip work makes this piece an excellent example of Jingdezhen porcelain's refined style.

Measuring 33 cm in height with its wooden stand, this vase was adapted into a lamp base in the early 20th century, with a hole drilled at the base where a reign mark once was. The piece is in good overall condition, showing some wear consistent with its age. The conversion to a lamp is typical of pieces that were adjusted for Western tastes during that time.

Why You Should Buy

This is a beautiful example of Chinese porcelain with a celadon glaze, and the slip work is both precise and delicate. Paired with a perfect wooden stand, it can be appreciated as a stunning piece alongside a collection or displayed on its own, adding an elegant, eastern touch to any space. Its serene green tone and craftsmanship bring a sense of calm and refinement, making it a piece you’ll enjoy having in your home.
