About this item
BLACK TRANSFERWARE POT and LID
POTTED MEAT POT
Made in the Staffordshire Region of England
This tall Victorian style 2 3/4 " wide x 3 1/2 " tall covered ceramic earthenware container was made for preserved ground meats. Potted meat or meat potting began as a way to preserve meat prior to the advent of refrigeration. Much like MRE (meals ready to eat) still used by today's army, the food had a long shelf life and was more or less edible.
The pieces are in great condition and a rare find. An old repair under the lid done nicely.
