    About this item

Lovely early 19th century Derby coffee can with a deep mazarine blue ground and set with an exquisitely painted landscape in a large oval reserve to the front. Depicting a man punting in a boat on a river beside a bridge with cottage to one side and trees and a set of ruins in the distance. The scene is named on the reverse as  "Near Abergelvie Scotland" (a misspelling of Abergeldie). The scene is framed with a gilded ring and the rest of the can is covered in bold gilded patterns.

Finished with a "Dresden" shaped handle and the red mark crown over D and crossed swords mark for c.1815.

    It measures 6.5cm (2 1/2") high, 8.5cm (3 3/8") handle to rim and 6.5cm (2 1/2") rim to rim.

Condition is very good with no damage or restoration but there has been a little retouching of the gilding to the rim,  no disparity in tone or colour. A bit of surface wear to the gilding, mainly to the handle but minimal wear to the landscape painting. There is also a section of kiln dust spots inside the rim.
