About this item
A sweet pair of 18th century derby porcelain candlestick figures in bocage depicting a pair of children dressed as gardeners with flowers in their aprons. Stood on ornate scrolled bases picked out in puce enamel and gilt. The detailed bocage is smothered in multicoloured daisy flowers and the candle sconces are shaped with green and black enamelled leaves and lemon, pink and gilt rims. c.1770.
Reference: Chelsea & Chelsea-Derby China by Egan Mew, colour plate II.
They measure 22cm (8 5/8") high, 14cm (5 1/2") wide and 8cm (3 1/8") deep.
Condition is very good: the boy has some very fine restoration to the lower part of his right arm and the girl has had a repair also to her left arm and professionally touched in. There has been a small chip to the blue apron which has been touched in to match. No other restoration or damage to the figures, bases and candle sconces. Minor chips and losses to the bocage and petals. Light surface wear; the enamels are nice and bright, there has been some rubbing to the gilding in places and there are some very fine craze lines in places.
