    About this item

An amusing Staffordshire pottery figural pen holder by the Dudson factory, c.1840, depicting the "tipsy lawyer" slumped over a barrel with his wig starting to slide off. Number 37 marked to the base.

    It measures 10cm (4") by 7cm (2 3/4") wide and 9.5cm (3 3/4") high.

Condition is fair: there is a small area of professional restoration to the edge of the base. Some discolouration to the glaze on the barrel and a very small chip to the underside of his foot and a hairline across his ankle. Some crazing to his legs and wear to the gilt on his shoes, collar and cuffs and beer mug.
