About this item
A very pretty Samuel Alcock pot pourri vase decorated in an apple green and pale salmon ground with ornate rococo style side handles and a domed pierced cover with quatrefoil shaped knop formed from overlapping leaves. Stood on a shaped footed base. Each side has a large reserve, one exquisitely painted with a close up view of Salisbury Cathedral and the other with an array of colourful garden flowers. Marked to the base with pattern number 2 over 9898 in purple enamel and also the named view carefully painted "Salisbury Cathedral". c.1840.
It measures 21cm (8 1/4") high and 13cm (5 1/8") by 11.5cm (4 1/2") wide.
Condition is very good with just a couple of minor points: there has been a small, neat repair to the edge of the cover which is minimally noticeable and there is a fine hairline across one of the lobes of the knop and another across a small section of one of the handles. Otherwise no damage or other repair or restoration and handling wear is minimal to all areas including the green enamelled ground, gilding and the finely painted reserves.
I have another nearly identical vase but the main reserve is a landscape view and the flowers are clearly by a different hand so they are not a true pair and I am selling them separately but they do match together nicely on display.
