    About this item

A very pretty Derby porcelain spill vase of good size in a flared trumpet shape with concave step above a circular foot. Exquisitely painted in bright enamels, finely detailed, mixed floral sprays all around the outside and 4 further just inside the flared lip, and delicate butterflies, ladybirds and other tiny bugs dotted all in between. Finished with a gilt dentil rim, and solid gilt band around the concave section of the foot and a further ring above a raised band just above. Red mark to the base, c.1820.

    It measures 13.7cm (5 3/8") high and 12cm (4 3/4") wide.

Condition is very good with no damage or restoration. The surface underneath the enamel is finely and evenly crazed with just the very slightest discoloration to the lower part, and there is a short horizontal glaze line that just runs from the poppy tucked under the rim to the left to the first butterfly, approx. 3cm. Surface wear to the enamel is very minor; there are small amounts of loss to the leaves of 2 of the sprays (blue daisy and central rose) and a tiny loss to a petal of a gerbera but that is all I can see. A tiny bit of wear to the gilt on the foot in one small area and just to the edge of the rim.
