About this item
Pretty Worcester lobed dessert plate with a rich "wet blue" ground decorated with finely gilded feathery fronds and diaper panels within a scalloped edge. A central reserve has further gilded foliate decoration around the edge and is painted with a large floral spray in Compagnie Des Indes style in delicate polychrome enamels of purple, puce, cyan, green and iron red.
Fretted square mark to the reverse, c.1770.
It measures 19cm (7 1/2") wide and 2.5cm (1") high.
Condition is very good: there are a few small chips to the foot rim but no other damage or restoration. There has been a small circular glaze loss within the central reserve caused during firing when a speck of kiln dust exploded through the glaze surface. There are also some small firing faults on the back around the factory mark. Surface wear is light, mainly just a little wear to the gilding here and there.
