About this item
EARLY CHILDS RED TRANSFERWARE PITCHER JUG
CAT WITH KITTEN
OPOSSUM AND RABBIT
Staffordshire England ~
c. 1830-1840
This delightful jug stands 2 1/4" high x 2 3/8" wide excluding the applied handle and a pearlware glaze.
One side has a transfer of a Cat with a Kitten on her shoulder in a tropical setting. The other side has a comical Fox with what I believe to be a Possum. An ornate chain transfers follow the rim inside and out as well as on the handle.
The jug is in great condition. Children's early pitchers and miniautre jugs of this quality is quite scarce and highly sought after. The images are delightful, a throwback to a much simpler time. The Christening jug is a pocket size work of art, and will make a great addition to your collection of children's wares.
