About this item
Fabulous first period Worcester coffee pot, c.1765, of baluster form with domed lid and flower knop. Decorated with a blue scale ground with large abstract white cartouches painted in polychrome enamels in the kakiemon palette of oriental style flowers and foliage with some bundles of harvested cereals and butterflies and gilded highlights throughout.
The lid and handle have been mounted with a silver hinge (hallmarked for London 1851 maker CS), a bespoke looking fitting perfectly matching the shape of the piece. Blue fretted square mark to base.
It measures 9" high, 7" spout to handle and 4 1/2" wide.
Condition is excellent; there is a small chip to the flower knop but no other damage or restoration and light surface wear, good and appropriate for age and use.
