About this item
First period Worcester porcelain trio of coffee cup, tea bowl and saucer in the Waiting Chinaman pattern, dating from c.1770. A rare and desirable pattern, a sweet, naive scene of said Chinaman, hand painted with floral sprays and blue border around the inner rims of the cup and bowl and rim of saucer. The bowl has a little spray inside the bottom.
Open blue crescent to all pieces.
The cup measures 2 1/2" high, 3 1/4" rim to handle and 2 3/8" rim to rim. The tea bowl is 1 3/4" high and 2 7/8" wide and the saucer is 4 7/8" wide and 1" high.
Condition is very good with just a couple of small faults, a small rim chip to the cup near the handle, a small nick to the foot rim of the bowl and a short (1") hairline to the saucer. Light surface wear, good and appropriate for age and use. For completeness: there is a short firing line around the base of the handle and a short section of blurring in the pattern inside the rim of the cup.
