About this item
A humorous French 'Peeping Eye' wedding or bridal chamber pot, dating to the early 20th century. The front is decorated with handpainted flowers and the words "Vive la Mariée" ("Long Live the Bride"). The base inside is painted with a rather lurid eye! It bears no maker's marks.
These chamber pots were traditionally given as wedding gifts. They were presented to the happy couple on the morning following the wedding, usually filled with soup.
