    About this item

An attractive porcelain tea and coffee trio from the Grainger manufactory of Worcester in the Gloster shape with shaped rims with moulded flowers and raised dots and with distinctive ring handles with acanthus leaf thumb rest. A mazarine blue underglaze blue ground runs below the rims reserving white ground in the centres finely painted with various country landscapes. Gilt grape vines flow along the edge of the reserves and lemon yellow enamel and gilding decorate the rims and handles. The saucer and coffee cup marked underneath with pattern number 1933 in gilt. c.1835 - 1840.

Reference: A Compendium Of British Cups, Michael Berthoud, plate 1059, and Grainger's Worcester Porcelain, Sandon & Sandon, plates 32, 33, 41 and 43.

The tea cup measures 10.5cm (4 1/8") rim to rim and 5cm (2") high to the rim. The coffee cup measures 8.6cm (3 3/8") rim to rim and 6.8cm (2 11/16") high to the rim and the saucer measures 14.8cm (5 3/4") wide and 2.5cm (1") high.

In good condition: the tea cup has some minor fridging/scuffing to a small section of the rim, please see the final photographs, and both cups are finely crazed on the outside and one of these craze lines on the tea cup at the rim appears as a short hairline. No other damage, repair or restoration and minor handling wear.
