    About this item

    Rabbits and Frogs and Cows

    St. Augustine Ware ~  England ~ c.1907

This is a very large colorful hand painted transferware charger platter  from the genre of rabbit ware plates that have become very popular.

Measuring 13 5/8 inches in diameterx 2 inches tall.  The plattter is decorated with rich chocolate brown transfer print which was then hand painted in a brilliant green, yellow, brick red and brown, depicting four rabbits, one coming out of the rabbit hole or warren.  Two frogs soak up the sun in mid-stream and cows graze nearby in the English countryside.

The piece recites the amusing rhyme, " SEASON ME WELL WITH PEPPER AND SALT, AND JUST A PINCH OF MUSTARD YELLOW.  AN' DON'T FORGET THE ALE OF MALT, FOR THAT'S THE JUICE THAT MAKES ME MELLOW "

    Great condition.
