    About this item

A nice Miles Mason tea cup and saucer in the "Boy At The Door pattern, c.1805. A charming oriental scene of a boy standing looking out of the door at 3 other figures conversing outside in a garden with landscape in the background.

    The cup measures 5.2cm (2 1/16") high, 8cm (3 1/8") rim to rim and 10.2cm (4") rim to handle and the saucer measures 13.3cm (5 1/4") wide and 2.6cm (1") high.

Condition is very good overall; there are 2 short, very tight hairlines just to the right of the handle and another across the ring of the handle where it joins the body. They are barely visible and no other damage, chips or restoration. A small amount of surface wear to the brown rims in a few places and a small flake loss to the steps on the saucer and to the blue robe. The definition of the black detailing to the faces and door frame is very faint but is original and not wear, I have seen several other pieces in this pattern exactly the same and if you tilt them towards the light you can see all the detailing is fully there but very pale, swamped by the flesh colour it seems.
