About this item
Very pretty pair of 18th century Meissen porcelain baskets with pierced sides and unusual pierced bases. The "basketweave" has grooved detail to each strap finishing in a shaped, gilded rim. Naturalistic twig style handles on either side with a small applied leaf at the inside terminal and small spring flowers applied below the terminals on the outside, of narcissus, primroses and daisies. Small blue flowers are applied to the strap intersections on the outside and the foot is incised to create a rope twist effect.
Both fully marked with crossed swords for c.1765-1770.
They measure 18cm (7") wide across the handles and 16.5cm (6 1/2") wide rim to rim and 9.5cm (3 3/4") high to the handles.
Condition is excellent with no damage or restoration bar a small chip to one of the green leaves forming the handle terminal. Very light surface wear but a small loss to the gilding on the rim of one and 2 small (3mm) firing lines.
