    About this item

Very nice pair of 18th century Worcester porcelain shell moulded dessert dishes decorated in the Sir Joshua Reynolds pattern, c.1770. Narrow, shaped wet blue borders with gilded diaper pattern and hanging foliate garlands frame the large white central reserve painted in polychrome enamels in the kakiemon palette depicting a hoho bird in a tree with  sprays of large exotic flowers on delicate arching stems. The shaped bottom section of the dishes is decorated in puce on a white ground.

Both are marked with the italicised W mark.

    They measure 7 1/2" (19cm) by 7 1/2" (19cm) wide and 1 1/2" (4cm) high.

Condition is excellent with no damage or restoration. Surface wear is light and appropriate for age and use. There are a few very small, minor firing faults in the glaze on one plate where the glaze has blown out over some embedded kiln dust.  They are mainly concentrated just to the left of the bird and I have zoomed in on this section in the final photograph for you to see.
