    About this item

An attractive pair of late 19th century figures produced by Edme Samson after Meissen, of courtiers of the Ottoman empire. Very finely modelled and decorated figures in bright exotic enamels with gilt embellishments, the gentleman with a full gilded vest. Stood on moulded naturalistic mounds each figure with a gilded wine ewer and goblet. Small unglazed area to the base with model numbers drawn inside. This marking is recognised as a Samson feature and an identical model of the male I have also seen with a known Samson painted factory mark. c.1880.

    They measure 23cm (9") high, 9cm-10cm (3 1/2"-4") wide and 7.5cm (3") deep.

Condition is good: on both figures the right hand and goblet show some professional restoration. The spout of the ewer by the gentleman's feet has also had some minor professional restoration carried out to the spout. No other restoration and no current damage. Handling wear is also light.
