About this item
This very attractive hand painted porcelain creamer is by John Rose Coalport and is decorated with cartouches of colourful floral sprays, outlined in gilding, all on a Worcester type scale blue ground. The shape of the creamer is known as the London shape. It measures 165 mm (6.5 inches) from the spout to the handle, it has a width of 80 mm (3 1/8th inches) and stands 100 mm (4 inches) high. It is unmarked but the shape is shown in Plate 592, page 99 of Michael Berthoud's "A Cabinet of British Creamers", and the pattern is seen in Plate 33 of Geoffrey Godden's "Coalport and Coalbrookdale Porcelains". There is some very minor rubbing of the gilding and it would date from around 1820.
