About this item
A very stylish Bohemian Art Nouveau twin handled vase with a stylized tree pattern by Paul Dachsel (Czech, Circa 1880) for Amphora and dating from around 1900. This finely potted and hand-crafted vase stands raised on a narrow unglazed foot with stepped recessed base and is of bell shape with wide skirted lower body narrowing to a small raised opening with small handles applied to either side. The body of the vase is decorated in thick colored glazes in tones of green and blue with two trees set amidst lower leafy shrubs with branches stretched upwards with the foliage forming the decoration around the top of the vase. The scene is against a light blue ground and with a brown flecking through the glaze and the design while simple captures the style of the Art Nouveau period. The vase has an impressed 98 mark to the base.
Provenance: acquired in the British Art Market
In good condition with a small glaze chip to the lower edge which does not detract and could be very easily touched in if necessary.
