About this item
Very pretty first period Worcester coffee cup painted in polychrome enamels in a version of the Old Mosaic pattern, c.1770. Decorated with 8 different panels alternating with underglaze blue base decoration with gilded over painting and white ground planels with vibrant floral decoration in a kakiemon palette of red, turquoise, green, magenta and yellow with large flower 'wheels' overlapping some of the sections. An iron red band runs around the bottom with gilded decoration resembling lotus flowers and a simple iron red pattern runs up the handle.
Pseudo oriental marks to the base.
It measures 2 1/2" high, 3 1/4" rim to handle and 2 1/4" rim to rim.
Condition is very good with no damage or restoration. There is some wear to the gilding on the cup rim but otherwise very little surface wear to the gilding or enamels. There is a small underglaze nick inside the footrim.
