About this item
AESTHETIC BLUE TRANSFERWARE SOUP TUREEN
CANOVA PATTERN
Brown Westhead and Moore Potteries
Staffordshire England c. 1870
This very large early Victorian 14 1/2 “ long x 10 3/4 “ wide x 8 “ tall soup tureen is transfer printed in brown. The pattern features birds, of course. Designed/attributed to Pierre Mallet, this delightful plate combines the new Aesthetic and Japanese influences of the 19th Century, with a freer more naturalistic design and the use of asymmetry, along with the English love of nature.
Never used and in great condition. A small chip to the underside of the lid and a minor star hairline to the body.
