About this item
A lovely Worcester porcelain barrel shaped cream jug with sections of horizontal ribbing around the foot and spout. Printed with the very rare "Early Peony Print", c.1758-1760, hatched crescent mark to base.
Reference: Worcester Blue & White Porcelain 1751-1790, Branyan, French & Sandon, section II.C.4, described as "very rare". Careful observation of the markings and kiln dust spots it appears this jug is the same one as illustrated.
It measures 6.5cm (2 5/8") high, 8.5cm (3 3/8") spout to handle and 6cm (2 3/8") wide.
Condition is very good; there is a small area of good restoration to the tip of the spout but no other damage or repair. There is a small indent to the handle, caused during manufacture. A few kiln dust spots in the ribbing but not many. Handling wear is minimal.
