    About this item

Very fine and rare early Worcester sauceboat with spaniel dog's head thumb rest set on the scroll handle, c.1753-54. Crisply moulded detail to the body of vines and scrolls to form oval panels either side and small reserve to the. Very finely painted in polychrome enamels of a "Long Eliza" figure on one side standing in front of a fence in an oriental garden, and the side shows a willow tree on a high rock with a small sampan boat. The interior is painted in the centre around the rim with fine garden flowers and insects.

    It measures 23.5cm (9 1/4") long and 9cm (3 1/2") wide and 11.5cm (4 1/2") high.

Condition is excellent. There is a extremely fine, invisible piece of restoration to the very tip of the spout, clearly just to remedy some light fritting and the whole appears to be perfect. Very light surface wear only to the enamels and a bit of rubbing to the glaze on top of the dog's head.
