    About this item

Large first period Worcester mask/cabbage jug in the printed pattern The Rose and Grape Sprays, c.1770-75.  The upper border around the neck comes from the Pine Cone pattern group. The body is classically moulded with cabbage leaf effect and a Bacchus type gentleman's face forms the mask at the spout. Marked with crescent to the base.

According to "Worcester Blue & White Porcelain 1751-1790",  this pattern is only found on a specific ovoid vase although I have seen an example of a baluster mug with this pattern so it has been produced clearly very rarely on some other pieces such as this lovely jug. (Reference - Worcester Blue & White Porcelain 1751-1790, Branyon, French and Sandon, page 338, plate II.C.16 and page 332, plate II.C.11)

    It measures 23.5cm (9 1/4") high 15cm (6") wide and 19cm (7 1/2") spout to handle.

Condition is very good; there are a couple of small fritted chips to the spout but nothing significant and no other damage or restoration.
