    About this item

A fine porcelain tea cup and saucer by John & William Ridgway, c.1820, with a rich mazarine blue ground over gilded with a diaper pattern with stars at the intersections. Shaped panels framed with gilt alternating with white reserves painted with flowers in bright enamels, and lemon yellow enamel reserves with ornate gilt pattern. The cup with a gilt frieze running around the outer plain white ground, gilt edging to the moulded rosette at the upper handle terminal and gilded handle.

They each have a different pattern number painted to the base so I am not sure which one it is, the cup bearing 2/1114 and the saucer 2/1178 both in red enamel.

The cup measures 5.4cm (2 1/8") high to the handle and 9.3cm (3 5/8") rim to rim and the saucer measures 14.3cm (5 5/8") wide and 2.5cm (1") high.

In good condition: the saucer has a fine hairline off the rim which has been stabilised to the reverse. No issues with the cup. Minor handling wear, just a little to the gilt here and there.
