About this item
A very good quality, early 19th century, silver resist lustre jug. This jug is decorated with a wide band of birds, flowers and foliage to the body and there is a band of a geometric design to the rim. To achieve this effect, with the silver lustre, the design was painted onto the piece using oils and then the item was dipped in the lustre glaze. The oils resisted the glaze so the design shows through in the base colour of the pottery.
English pearlware. Date c.1820.
Dimensions: Height 14.5cm. Width 17cm. Diameter 12.8cm.
There is a very tiny chip to the rim. Otherwise, it is in very good condition and the lustre is still incredibly bright.
