About this item
LARGE STAFFORDSHIRE TRANSFERWARE PLATTER
RARE PATTERN ~ PEGASUS
Staffordshire England
c 1840
This large brown transferware platter measures 17 3/4 " long x 14 " wide". It is beautifully transfer printed in the richest dark chocolate brown.
The rim's border has six panels each divided by an elongated flower. The panels have a great urn with Pegasus on either side wrapped in classical swags. The central image is of the King of Beasts, a Lion, and the King of the Jungle, a Panther, each at peace in an exotic landscape.
Great Condition, clean shiny and bright. Large wild animal pieces are quite rare and the contrast and composition is especially beautiful in this rich brown color. This highly sought after platter will make a gorgeous centerpiece on any table or wall display of brown transferware! Large and heavy and will be properly packed.
