About this item
A charming early 19th century Staffordshire pearlware tureen in the form of a dove settled on a nest. The bird feathers painted with blue and purple enamel, with red painted eyes and beak and the nest is toned with ochre and brown. c.1820.
It measures 18.5cm (7 1/4") long, 10cm (4") wide and 14cm (51/2") high.
Condition is very good: there is a small shallow chip to the edge of the bird's ruff and another small chip to the flange under the cover to the side of the spoon slot that sits within the tureen. No restoration or repair. Minor handling wear, just the odd tiny enamel flake in a couple of places.
