    About this item

A lovely Swansea pearlware sauce or cream tureen finely painted in enamel with botanical specimens in the style of Thomas Pardoe, c.1810. The base has "Pendulous CatchFly" on one side and "Tulip" on the other. The cover had "Tree Flax" and "Peruvian Twin Sole". The rims are edged in brown. Shaped side handles and scrolled handle to the cover all picked out in brown enamel. Specimens named on the reverse of tureen and cover in red script.

    It measures 19cm (7 1/2") long, 10.8cm (4 1/4") wide and 14.5cm (5 3/4") high with cover on (8.2cm (3 1/4") height of tureen alone).

Condition is good: there is a chip to the rim to the side of the ladle hole, and another very small one under the rim further round. There is some minor discolouration around the area of the large chip at the end. The cover is crazed and there is a small area of apparent restoration to the end of the cover by the ladle hole so probably linked to the chip to the tureen base in the same area. It appears to just be the stablisation of a crack running part way diagonally from the rim ending roughly where the leaves start. The touching up is a very good match colourwise but of course missing the crazing in this area. There has also been a good repair and similar touching up to the inner flange over a small section on the opposite side. The enamel is in very good condition with just a few very tiny flakes and very minor wear to the brown enamel on the tureen rim.
