The Essentials
Pair of black ceramic cat figures with balls of wool Early to mid 20th century, English Staffordshire Glazed ceramic with painted finish and one glass-eyed figure One with small chips on the back, otherwise good condition One impressed Longton and closely related to the Bretby 1518 cat typeDescription
This is a pair of English black ceramic cat figures, both modelled lying down with balls of wool. One is impressed Longton, and the glass-eyed figure follows the well-known Bretby 1518 type.
They belong to the same playful line of British novelty pottery that made black cats a familiar domestic ornament in the early 20th century. Not a made pair, they just compliment each other so well.
