    About this item

This Spode lidded broth bowl on stand is decorated with the hand coloured chinoiserie pattern 2117. The bowl has a diameter of 106 mm (4.25 inches) and stands 100 mm (4 inches) high including the lid. The stand or saucer has a diameter of 158 mm (6.25 inches). As to condition, everything is in good shape apart from a crack to the bowl, which can be seen in the photos. Weighed against that, is that this is a reasonably rare item and to have survived together for close to 200 years is remarkable. Spode's new body, Stone China, was introduced in around 1812, and pattern 2117 pattern was introduced in around 1815. The blue printed mark shown on the bottom of the bowl was used from around 1815, but the impressed mark, "Spodes New Stone" was adopted when a new formula was used in around 1822. So this piece would date from around 1822.
