About this item
Genuine Victorian Transfer Printed
POTTED MEATS PASTE POT
J. Sainsbury c. 1890
This is a wonderful English Victorian pot that once held potted meat. Cooked and reduced to a concentrate, similar to modern day Spam, made of heaven knows what type of meats.
Preservation was a must before refrigeration, these pots were popular as they were able to preserve their foods for consumption at any time of the year and these meat pots fit the bill, a bit of wax and cover on top.
Rare to find with original lid. The piece is in great condition. 2 3/4 " tall x 2 1/8 " wide. A few darkened age lines and an under the glaze chip along the bottom normal to the making. The piece will make a great addition to any collection of transfer printed advertising wares.
