About this item
A first period Worcester porcelain coffee cup and saucer with concave vertical fluting well painted with small floral sprays and finished with gilt rims. Blue fretted square mark to the base. c.1765-1768.
Reference: Worcester Porcelain: The Zorensky Collection, Spero and Sandon, entries 199 & 200 for examples and a discussion on this uncommon style of factory decoration from the mid 1760.
The cup measures 5.6cm (2 1/4") high and 6.5cm (2 1/2") rim to rim. The saucer measures 2.5cm (1") high and 11.8cm (4 5/8") wide.
Condition is excellent with no damage, repair or restoration. Very minor handling wear mainly just to the gilt on the high points on the cup rim. There is a small area of discolouration just below the rim inside the cup and a little bit of kiln dust spotting to a small area of the saucer rim.
