An elegant late 19th/early 20th century mahogany chest of drawers in the Hepplewhite style by Druce & Co, London - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:
This chest of drawers consists of a mahogany veneered top with boxwood and mahogany stringing with mahogany crossbanding and outer boxwood stringing.
This leads down to a brushing slide with drop handles leading down to four graduated drawers.
The drawer fronts consist of fine quality mahogany veneers with boxwood and mahogany stringing with an outer boxwood stringing and all having brass handles and escutcheons, one drawer retaining the original brass makers plaque 'Druce & Co. Baker St, Portman Square, LONDON'.
The sides consist of fine quality mahogany veneers with boxwood and mahogany stringing, below the drawers and to the sides is a shaped frieze typical of Hepplewhite design, all supported by four elegant splay feet.
Druce & Co were a company of upholsterers, cabinetmakers and secondhand furniture retailers being based in a premises in Baker Street, London established in the 1850's by Thomas Charles Druce and later taken over by his son until 1913, the company continuing throughout the Wars but suffering extensive damage by bombing in 1940.
This chest of drawers is in excellent condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
