This is an antique travelling cleric's chest. An Anglo-Indian, teak colonial trunk with fitted interior, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1880.
Delightful fitted interior with a host of storage solutions Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order Select teak shows fine grain interest and warm caramel hues Inlaid brass stringing accentuates, with ornate decorative motif Wide access within, the stout lid held securely by a brass chain stay Distinctive arcading with a small mirror to centre and inset glass mounts of dried petals Fitted interior offers a suite of six lidded compartments, the central compartment removable Further storage to the front fascia with a lower candle drawer — working lock, key present Dressed with a shaped brass clasp to centre, holding the lid in place Brass straps adorn each edge for reassuring strength and durability Substantial iron drop handles mounted within robust backplates Continuous plinth base with shaped sash carvings to each sideThis is a fascinating antique travelling cleric's chest, with a superb fitted interior and delightfully appointed decorative finish.
