About this item
Very beautiful British colonial box or trunk made of Camphor Wood with ebonised leatherwork covering and brass bindings. Made in British India circa 1860-1900, Camphorwood trunks and boxes were famously used because the scented odour of the wood protected clothes from moths and other insects, and were a vital accessory for travellers throughout the late Victorian era. The trunk which measures 27" wide x 16" deep x 18" tall, and still has its lock, is in good condition - minimal wear to the leather, though the brasswork is slightly tarnished and I have not had time to repolish it before offering it on the site.
