    About this item

French Mantel clock, crafted from ormolu in the Renaissance Revival style mantel clock is wrought from ormolu (gilt bronze) and champlevé enamel. The clock case is raised on a stepped ormolu plinth inset with cells of champlevé enamel. The clock case above the plinth is of rectangular form with a rounded, break arch top. The case is flanked by four ormolu columns with slender, shaped shafts and bulbous lower sections, the two front columns accompanied by ormolu cherubim; seated atop the case, between the break arch, is another cherub, complementing the duo below. The top of the case is surmounted by a cylindrical, dome-topped feature, l with champlevé enamel, which culminates in an ornate, pointed finial.

The body of the clock has champlevé enamel: geometrical, floral, and arabesque forms, wrought from vitreous enamel inset into cells within the ormolu, feature heavily. The motifs are set above the turquoise enamel ground, which beautifully contrasts with their pink, purple, and blue tones. The clock dial, inset front and centre, is likewise decorated with champlevé enamel; the dial’s Roman numerals are contained on parcel gilt circular panels.

It has a makers stamp but not Jupe or Leroy and of the squiggle persuasion.

Just had an extensive service and a mend of one cherub (pin on foot broke) @ Chris Wadge in Salisbury which was £400

To Move REMOVE bell then uncle and remove the pendulum. This must be collected or send a courier as all clocks are moved at the owners risk due to them not liking rough treatment. For certain areas personal delivery  may be possible = enquire
